Free Things to Do in Sharon, MA

If you’re thinking about moving to Sharon, Massachusetts, you might be wondering about things to do in the Sharon area. Sharon has some incredible attractions and activities, including Ward’s Berry Farm and the Sharon Dog Park. Here are some of the best free things to do in Sharon, Massachusetts.

Ward’s Berry Farm

Ward’s Berry Farm is a lovely family farm found in Sharon, Massachusetts. The owners of the farm are two brothers, named Bob and Jim Ward, who have run the farm since 1982, providing some of the best quality freshly picked vegetables and fruits.

Bob and Jim’s brother Ann use some favorite family recipes to make delicious fruit jellies and jams, as well as pies, breads, muffins, and cookies, all of which are sold in the store. The store’s shelves are also well stocked with a huge selection of prepared foods to go and gourmet grocery items. The farm store also includes a smoothie bar with slush and soft-serve ice cream, as well as a delicious deli and sandwich counter, and specializes in homemade jams, gourmet cheeses, artisan breads, and gift baskets made to order.

Perennials, hanging baskets, and bedding plants fill the greenhouses in the spring and summer. The farm offers pick-your-own pumpkins, blueberries, and strawberries in season, and there are public hayrides available during pumpkin and strawberry seasons. You can reserve school tours and birthday parties year-round, and there are many different children’s play areas and picnic areas available. At Christmas, there are garlands, wreaths, and trees available, and at Thanksgiving, you can purchase fresh native turkeys.

Sharon Dog Park

Surrounded by some beautiful trails, the Sharon Dog Park is a fully fenced-in area and space for dogs of all different breeds to catch balls, frolic, run around, wrestle, and play with other dogs. The dog park is composed of two different areas, including a large space with a new gazebo for dog parents to relax and enjoy the shade. There is also a smaller dog park space for smaller dogs, puppies, and dogs that appreciate one on one play or a more intimate setting.

The park welcomes dogs and owners from nearby local towns or even those who are passing through the area on their way through the East Coast. You can rest assured that there will be someone else in the dog park, whether it’s sunny out or there is three feet of snow on the ground. The Sharon Dog Park is maintained by the Friends of Sharon Dog Park, a group of volunteers and dog parents from the area.

The Penny Candy Store

The Penny Candy Store is a huge and rare candy shop where you can purchase either a box of old fashioned penny candy or just one single piece of penny candy. Some of the old fashioned penny candy sold at the Penny Candy Store dates back to the early 1900s or even the late 1800s.

There is a huge selection of colored candy available at the store for weddings and other events. The candy shop sells some amazing traditional penny candy items, including Boston Fruit Slices, Satellite Wafers, Sour Patch Peach and Sour Power Belts, Sour Patch Watermelon, Hershey’s Chocolate bars, Charleston Chews, Peach Rings, Gummi Sharks, Gummi Bears, Mint Julep, Bit O Honey, and Good and Plenty Candies.
